With Us Through It All 4

Hebrews 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

Isaiah 41:10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

HE IS WITH US DURING TIMES OF PERSECUTION
John 16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

If your really strive to walk with Jesus it will cost you.

Following Jesus could cause you to lose some friends. When you no longer want to do the same old things you used to do many of your old friends might not want your around anymore.

If you. try to witness to people and tell them about the difference Jesus has made in your life you might be ridiculed by some of them. If you are, don't worry, you are in good company. They mocked Jesus too.

We have lived for a longtime in a country where there has been very little persecution of Christians. This is changing quickly. I am afraid if the current trends continue we will be seeing more and more persecution. There is comfort in knowing that Jesus will be with us every step of the way.

GOD IS WITH US IN TIME OF PRAYER

With our busy schedules we sometimes become too busy to talk or listen to others. We should never be too busy to talk to God in prayer. He is always there for us and He is never to busy to listen. Don't get too busy to talk to Him.

Sometimes we can be hard to reach. It is not so common for us to be out of reach today. Email, cell phones, text messages and all the new technology have made us more accessible than we used to be. God is never too far away and His line is never too busy.

One thing that brings me great comfort is that God is always concerned about what is going on in my life. Nothing is too big for Him to handle or too small for Him to care about.

GOD IS WITH US IN TIME OF SORROW AND SUFFERING

In my ministry l have dealt with people during times of sorrow and suffering. One thing I have noticed is the difference between those who know the Lord and those who do not. It seems that those who do not know the Lord are at a complete loss and have a terrible time handling tragedy and loss. On contrast those who know the Lord seem to find an inner strength to deal with the same type suffering and loss.

God is aware and concerned with all our problems. God is steadfast and never moves. It is up to us to maintain a close relationship with God so that we are aware of His presence during trials. He is always near, we just need to stay close enough to cling to him in our time of need.

God is with us at all times. He is with us at the time of salvation. He planned it. The plan of salvation as taught through the Bible is a perfect plan. It is perfect because it is God's plan. Man can try all he wants to change it but his efforts are futile. It is Gads plan for man and it is the only plan we need.

God provided the way of salvation by sending his Son to pay our sin debt by dying in our place. He offers salvation to all men, free of charge and He invites all men to come to Him through Jesus Christ. He calls men to Him by His Holy Spirit, convincing them of their sinful condition and need toke saved.

FREE SAMPLES

FREE SAMPLES

The businesses of the world many times offer free samples to
the consumer to get them to try a product they haven't tried before.
Their strategy is smart. They believe that if more people try their
product they will like it and will become regular customers. This
is even true of many things that are harmful, alcohol, tobacco,
drugs and pornography are just a few things that people try and then
go back time and time again for more.
This same principle is true for products that are not addictive
but are enjoyed by the consumer. It is hard to taste a delicious
brand of ice cream and never buy it again. Pizza is the kind of
food that you probably wouldn't miss if you never tried one, but
once you have if you like it you will surely go back for more. There
are times when I get hungry and only certain things will satisfy
that hunger. The purpose of free samples is to give you an appetite
for a product.
We as Christians should pass out samples in abundance. We have
so much to offer the world to build up their appetites for Christ.
Let us offer love, kindness, mercy, patience, concern and caring.
Let us offer them a smile and friendship and compassion. All these
things will surely give them an appetite. We can then tell them
that this appetite can only be satisfied by Jesus Christ.

IF

IF

There is something wrong with your reasoning if:

You call Me the Light, and you do not look to Me.
You call Me the Way, and you do not follow Me.
You call Me the Truth, and you do do not believe Me.
You call Me the Wise, and you give Me no attention.
You call Me Lovely, and you do not love Me.
You call Me rich, and you do not ask for anything.
You call Me the Everlasting, and you do not seek Me.
You call Me Merciful, and you do not trust Me.
You call Me almighty, and you do do not honor Me.
You call Me righteous, and you do not fear Me.

The Gift of God 5

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

This is the week of Christmas and I know everyone (including me) is going to be very busy. We think about family gatherings, and Christmas gifts this week the devotionals will he short and the subject will be the greatest gift of all. I hope you enjoy them.

THE GIFT OF GOD IS GUARANTEED

It is a gift that fits the whole world. It truly is a gift, it can't be bought, sold, earned, deserved, it can only be received as an undeserved gift to all who will believe.

It will not perish. It will never pass away. Theives can't steal it. Time will not tarnish it. It is eternal. That means forever. I hope you have received this wonderful Gift that God has offered to "whosoever believeth in Him".

FROM ALL OF US AT SHILOH BAPTIST CHURCH WE HOPE YOU HAVE A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS.

The Gift of God 4

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

The Gift of God Is a Useful Gift

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

How much more useful could a gift be than to provide a gateway to our Heavenly Father.

There is no other way but through Jesus.
There is no other truth but Jesus.
Eternal life is only through Jesus.

God gave us the Way, the Truth, and the Life when he gave us Jesus as a gift.

The Son of God was certainly a precious gift.

Matthew 3:17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

How special it is when someone gives you a gift of something that is precious to them. If it is the thought that counts then God truly did love us to give us His only begotten Son.

When you open your gifts or watch others open theirs at Christmas remember that God gave us the most precious gift of all when he gave us Jesus for our Savior.

The gift that God gave us was a very practical gift. I know we have all received gifts that were not even usable. That is not the case with G0d's gift. He gave us food for our hungry souls.

John 6:35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

You have heard the saying, "The Gift that keeps on Giving." Jesus is certainly that gift. Won't you accept that gift. If you already have then I hope you will share the gift with someone else this year.

The gift God gave us was the Messiah _ a much looked for and a much needed gift.

John 4:25-26 The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things. {26} Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.

Everyone needs this gift because without Him salvation would be impossible. I hope you have received Jesus into your heart. of is God's greatest gift and there is nothing worse than to reject it.

Processionary Caterpillars -

A man or a woman without a goal is like a ship without a rudder.
Each will drift and not drive. Each will end up on the beaches of
despair, defeat and despondency. John Henry Fabre, the great French
naturalist, conducted a most unusual experiment with some
Processionary Caterpillars. These caterpillars blindly follow the
one in front of them. Hence, the name. Fabre carefully arranged
them in a circle around the rim of a flower pot, so that the lead
caterpillar actually touched the last one, making a complete circle.
In the center of the flower pot he put pine needles, which is food
for the Processionary Caterpillar. The caterpillars started around
this circular flower pot. Around and around they went, hour after
hour, day after day, night after night. For seven full days and
seven full nights they went around the flower pot. Finally, they
dropped dead of starvation and exhaustion. With an abundance of food less than six inches away, they literally starved to death, because
they confused activity with accomplishment. Many Christians make
that same mistake.

WHAT I WANT (TO BE)

WHAT I WANT (TO BE)

Ga 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

Galatians 5:22-23
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering,
gentleness, goodness, faith, {23} Meekness, temperance: against
such there is no law.

So often at this time of year we hear people talking about what they want. What we need to do is think more about what we want to be.

I WANT TO BE MORE LOVING:
Help me to love those who need loving the most.
Help me to love those who do not love me.
Help me to love unconditionally.

I WANT TO BE MORE JOYFUL:
TO FIND JOY IN THE SIMPLE THINGS.
TO PROJECT THAT JOY IN SUCH A WAY THAT OTHERS WILL ALSO BE JOYFUL.

I WANT TO ENJOY MORE PEACE:
BY THINKING MORE ON THE SPIRITUAL AND LESS ON THE CARNAL
BY TRUSTING GOD MORE EACH DAY AND REALIZING THAT :

Romans 8:28
And we know that all things work together for good to them that
[love God], to them who are the called according to
purpose.

I WANT TO BE MORE PATIENT:
WITH EVERYONE: MY FAMILY, MY FRIENDS,
WITH THOSE I DON'T AGREE WITH AS WELL AS THOSE I DO AGREE WITH
I WANT TO BE MORE PATIENT BECAUSE GOD HAS BEEN MORE PATIENT WITH
ME.

I WANT TO BE MORE GENTLE:
MORE CARING, MORE TENDER AND MORE SYMPATHETIC

I WANT TO BE BETTER:
BY ALLOWING GOD TO HAVE MORE OF ME THAN HE ALREADY HAS

I WANT TO BE MEEK:
MEEKNESS IS POWER IN CONTROL AND TO KNOW THE POWER OF GOD IS IN
US AND TO ALLOW HIM TO CONTROL OUR PASSIONS IS MEEKNESS.

I WANT TO BE MORE TEMPERANT:
MORE RESTRAINED AND IN CONTROL, BY ALLOWING GOD TO HAVE CONTROL.

WHAT I WANT TO BE FOR CHRISTMAS IS A SPIRIT FILLED, SPIRIT LED CHRISTIAN.

NOTE: I USED THIS BACK IN OCTOBER BUT I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE GOOD TO TAKE ANOTHER LOOK AT IT DURING THIS CHRISTMAS SEASON.

The Price of Revival 5

Joel 2:17 Let the priests, the ministers of the LORD, weep between the [porch and] the [altar, and] let them say, Spare thy people, O LORD, [and] give not thine heritage to reproach, that the heathen should rule over them: wherefore should they say among the people, Where their God?

If we are going to ever see revival in this country it must come first from the spiritual leaders, then from the Christian community as a whole. We need to be filling our altars and weeping over our own sins and over the sins of others and seeking God's healing.

We need to be weeping and concerned over a back-sliding nation that is turning further and further away from God each day and each generation.

We need to be concerned about the unconcern in the pulpits and the fact that our Churches are lukewarm at best.

We need to have a concern for those who are lost and have a sincere desire to see them saved.

The Price of Revival 4

Isaiah 57:15 For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

We become broken by believing the Word of God. It will tell us of God's Holiness and of the evilness of sin. It is through the Word that we are able to recognize the destructiveness and the seriousness of sin.

We are broken by the Spirit of God as he convicts us of the sin in our lives and causes us to want to turn from it. The Holy Spirit not only convinces us to turn from our sins but to turn to God for forgiveness.

We are therefore broken by the power of God and once we become broken He takes all the pieces and lovingly forms us into something better.

A brokenhearted person is deeply conscious of the mercy of God through Christ Jesus. When we are brokenhearted over our sins we do not try to justify or rationalize them. We are simply sorry for having committing them and and thankful that we have forgiveness of them through the sacrifice Jesus made on our behalf.

When we are truly aware of how great God's mercy and how wonderful His grace is it cause us to strive so much harder to please Him and not sin against Him. We are then able to serve Him with gladness and thanksgiving.

A brokenhearted person is deeply conscious of the meaning and seriousness of sins. I don't mean to be critical of anyone in their prayer life but I often hear people ask God to forgive their shortcomings or mistakes. That sounds as if we are trying to minimize our sins. Let's call them what they are. They are ugly, destructive, terrible sins against a Holy God.

Polite society has even renamed our sins. Adultery is now called having an affair. That sounds like something to be catered. A drunkard is now an alcoholic I abortion is choice, perversion is a lifestyle and no one wants to call sin what it is.

If we are going to have revival as an individual or as a nation we must confess our sins as what they are and become brokenhearted over them.

Throughout the Bible we find that revival never came to a nation or an individual until they were broken. When a person is broken and contrite they are deeply conscious of the majesty of God. It is important to accept His sovereignty. He is God, we are not. He is the creator and we are the creation. He is right and if we are in contradiction to Him, we are wrong.

Many today are openly embracing lifestyles that the Bible, God's word says are sinful yet they want to enjoy the fellowship of the church and claim the blessings of God. It doesn't matter how popular or culturally accepted a practice is, that doesn't change what God's word says about it.

To try and mold God's attitude toward sin to conform to mans attitude is idolatry. We are trying to re-create the Creator in our image. There is no record of God reviving a nation that refused to turn from idolatry back to the True and living God. We must believe that He is God and that He is right.

FIXES 3

He Fixes Broken Lives 3

Luke 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

There are many today who are captive and don't really realize it. You can he captive to your fears. You can be captive to your sinful habits. You can be captive to your pride or insecurities or many other things.

If there is something in your life holding you back from fulfilling God's purpose then you need to let Jesus fix it. It is God's desire for you to live a full and fruitful life. you can only do this by trusting Jesus to Save you, keep you, and guide you.

Give Him all the pieces of your life. " Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."

Luke 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

There are many today wish broken hearts. Sometimes we try so hard to succeed that when we fall short we wind up with a broken heart. We need to give all the pieces to Jesus, he can heal us.

Sometimes there is lowliness that is so overwhelming that it breaks our heart. There is the teenager who feels he has no friends or the adult who feels forgotten. There can even be loneliness due to spousal neglect. These feelings can be devastating. You can even feel loneliness in a room full of people.

Can you imagine the loneliness Jesus felt on the cross? He knows how you feel and he has promised, "I will never leave thee, or forsake thee". Give your lankiness to Jesus and He will be your friend.

Luke 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

I like the wise saying, "If it ain't broke don't fix it." The problem is that there are many people with broken lives and they are looking to everyone else but the right one to fix them. Jesus is the mender of broken lives if we will just give Him the pieces.

No is poorer than those who are spiritually bankrupt. They seem to he trying to fill the empty void with everything but the one who can truly satisfy them. You may ask sometimes how people can let things like alcohol, drugs and sex ruin their lives. I doubt that any of them start out with their own destruction in mind. They have a void, an empty space they are trying to fill and all the other things just make the emptiness grow until it finally consumes them.

If your life is truly broken, give all the pieces to Jesus. He can fix it.

Thoughts To Ponder 4

ALL WE CAN DO IS LIVE OUR LIFE WHILE WE CAN

Psalms 90:9 For all our days are passed away in thy wrath: we spend our years as a tale that is told.

I have always loved this verse and it is one that I have used many times at funerals, We truly are writing a story as we line our live. Most of our life stories contain all the elements of a blockbuster movie or a best selling novel.

There are chapters of joy and of sadness. There are tales of victory and defeat. Humor and sometimes tragedy are intricately woven through the tale that is told. Hopefully it is a lone story to be cherished by all those you have loved. There are many other themes to numerous to mention but remember. you are the author. of is you who writes the true story of your life. Make it a good one.

There's one thing we can be positive about.
Deuteronomy 33:27 The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the EVERLASTING ARMS: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy them.

Thoughts To Ponder 3

THERE IS ONE THING WE CAN ALL BE SURE OF
(Heb 9:27) And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

Many times I have heard of someone receiving news from a doctor that they had a terminal illness. People begin to say " he, or she, is dying." The truth is that the moment are born we are on the path toward certain death. We never have a guarantee in this life. We are guaranteed of judgment though.
The saved will stand before the Judgment Seat of Christ to be judged for their rewards. The lost will stand before the White Throne Judgment with no hope or help. That is determined by whether you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior or reject him. It is your decision and if you meet that appointment with death before you choose Him it will be too late. There's one thing we can be positive about.Deuteronomy 33:27 The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the EVERLASTING ARMS: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy them.

Thoughts To Ponder 2

THERE ARE A LOT OF THINGS WE CAN NOT BE SURE OF 2

James 4:14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

We can not know the personal victories that we will win in our lives anymore than we can foresee the defeats. One thing is certain and that is that we will have some of each. If we walk closely with Jesus the victories will outweigh the defeats and even in defeat we will eventually emerge as victorious.
We can not know in advance of the opportunities or obstacles that will stand in our way. We can only prepare ourselves to be ready for whatever might present itself.
It is even hard sometimes to understand the full impact of the opportunities that we have missed. All we really have to work with is today. That is why it is so important to make the most out of it.
There's one thing we can be positive about.Deuteronomy 33:27 The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the EVERLASTING ARMS: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy them.

James 4:14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

There are a lot of things we can't be sure of. Life is filled with ups and downs and it seems like we are always surprised by both. If we did know what lay ahead for us we might be terrified. War has progressed to a state of terrorism to the point that we can not be sure if we will be attacked from abroad or by the very people living around us.
Politics has degenerated to the point that our leaders who are supposed to be working for the good of the people seem to care only about staying in office. (There doesn't seem to be much hope no matter which party is in control).
There's one thing we can be positive about.Deuteronomy 33:27 The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the EVERLASTING ARMS: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy them.

I FEEL THE TUG

FEEL THE TUG
A small boy was flying a kite very high in the sky one
afternoon when a low cloud hid the kite from view. A man walking by
asked the boy what he was doing with that string in his hand. "I am
flying my kite," he responded.
The man looked up and saw nothing except the lone cloud in
an otherwise clear sky. "I don't see a kite up there anywhere."
"Mister,' the little boy said, " I don't see it either,but I
know its is up there because I can feel the tug on my string."
Sometimes the world thinks we are foolish to worship a God we
can not see. I know he is up there, I feel Him tugging on the
strings of my heart.

HOW TO HAVE POWER

THE POWER OF GOD'S WORD

P- PENETRATING POWER

Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

O- OVERCOMING POWER
Luke 4:8
And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

W- WONDER WORKING
Luke 5:5
And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.

John 15:7
If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

E- EVERLASTING POWER

Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

Psalms 119:89
LAMED. For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.

R- REVEALING POWER

John 16:13
Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come.

MURDER

THOU SHALT NOT KILL
by Jeremy Burkes

Thou shalt not kill. Exodus 20:13

Killing can mean a whole lot of things. There are a lot of ways you can kill someone. You can physically kill them you can mentally kill someone and you can kill a friendship with someone. You can’t turn on the news without hearing someone has been killed or murdered. In Matthew Jesus tells us about being angry with our brother (Matthew 5:21-22). Anger and pride are the root cause of most murders that occur in the world. To mentally kill someone you verbally break them down. When you tell someone that they are no good or you tell someone that you are better than them you kill the very thing that makes them who they are. The old saying goes sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me. Words can hurt more than sticks and stones; they have a much more lasting effect. The same can be said of killing a friendship. When someone makes us angry, whether it’s on our jobs or if it’s one of our family or friends we need to pray about it. We need to take it to God and he will show us what our next step is. We need to let God guide our words and the actions we do.

No Stealing

THOU SHALT NOT STEAL
by Jeremy Burkes

Thou shalt not steal. Exodus 20:15

There are many ways a person can steal something. Theft is a way to steal. Theft is taking something that does not belong to them. We see that mostly in retail stores. Many of us steal time on our jobs. We as people cut as many corners on our jobs and try to hide from the boss or we half do the job we are asked to do. There is one other way we can steal time and that is stealing time from God. We start out with a steady prayer time and then we start to cut corners. We then tend call on God just when we need something. Just like cutting corners on our job that is when we get in trouble. Once we start our prayer life we need to continue it and not steal from God. Remember just like our bosses at our jobs God wants all the time we have.

Don't Covet

THOU SHALT NOT COVET
by Jeremy Burkes

Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s house; thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor anything that is thy neighbor’s. Exodus 20:17

We all have neighbors. Some have more than others and some have less. We all try to keep up with the Jones’s. But what we don’t see is a lot of the times they are in debt up to their head to pay for it all. You ever see cows with their head sticking through the fence. They want the grass on the other side. We are a lot like that we want what our neighbor has, so we stick our neck through the fence. God provides us with the basics but we want more. Just like the cow that has grass under him we want what the next man has. Let go of what your neighbor has and focus on what God has provide for you.

God will provide for you according to your needs, not according to what your neighbor has.

UNFAITHFULNESS

THOU SHALT NOT COMMIT ADULTERY
by Jeremy Burkes

Thou shalt not commit adultery. Exodus 20:14

Marriage is a sacred institution between one man and one woman. the vows of marriage should be a lifelong commitment.

Today you hear that people are cheating on each other. The word marriage is does not seem to mean the same as it did in the past.. It is becoming a more common practice to cheat on your husband or your wife. When you take God out of your marriage you take away what marriage is all about. Remember that in any marriage God comes first and then your spouse. Inhuman relationships there should be no closer bond than between a husband and wife.

There is a reason it is preferred to as Holy Matrimony.
