Looking the Right Way 4

Hebrews 12:1-2 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, (2) Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

We Need To Look Forward To His Return

Titus 2:12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

I have a confession to make. I am sometimes too comfortable in this world. I enjoy life and actually look forward to what each day has to offer. I really can not identify with people who get bored because there are so many things I would like to do. I have to be very aware that this world is not what I should be focusing on I need to be thinking of Jesus return and be looking for His return.

Everything in this world is going to pass away and all we will have left are the things we did motivated out of love for Him. Are you laying up treasures in Heaven?" Look up! your redemption draweth nigh".

When you look around and become discouraged it is time to remember that this is all temporary and what his ahead for believers is so much better.

We Need To Look Upward To The Throne of God

Hebrews 4:16  Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Grace means unmerited or undeserved favor. We certainly client deserve God's favor but we certainly need it, and we are encouraged to approach God's throve boldly.

We need what God desires to give us. We need His mercy because we are so weak and temptations are so strong. Our strength is nothing but His is everything.

With His mercy and grace we can live the victorious and abundant lives that God intends for us to live. Look to Him for what you need to gain victory today!

We Need To Look Back To Calvary

John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

Jesus did for us, in our place, what we could not do for ourselves. He satisfied the demands of God for breaking the Law, He paid the sin debt for all who would believe and put their trust in Him.
When we look back at Calvary it should remind us of how much God loves us and cares for us. It should also remind us that Jesus has power even over death. If He can overcome death he can overcome anything He is eternal.

When you begin to look around and things become a little scary, look back to Calvary. The same power Jesus has to defeat death is available to you each day to give you victory.

Uncertain times are before us. It seems that when we turn on the news there is always something frightening for them to report. It seems that morality and. integrity no longer matter. People fear circumstances more than they fear God. When we open our eyes and take a look it can be very frightening if we fail to look in the right direction.

John 1:29  The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

We too must look to Jesus. He is the Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world.  In the next  few devotionals we will be discussing the right way to be looking. I hope you receive a blessing from them.

With Us Through It All 6

Hebrews 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
Isaiah 41:10   Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

GOD WILL BE THERE ETERNALLY

It brings us great sadness when we lose someone. Sometimes they move away. Sometimes they are taken from us by death. No matter the circumstances, it leaves us wish a sense of loss.
I have moved long distances in my ministry. I have moved away from family and I have left friends behind and it has always been hard to deal with. The one thing that gives me comfort is knowing that some day we will be reunited forever in Heaven and that no matter where I go Jesus will be with me forever.

GOD IS THERE WHEN WE NEED TO MAKE LIFE'S DECISIONS

1 Kings 19:12-13 And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice. And it was so, when Elijah heard it that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?

Sometimes when we are trying to make important decisions in our life we seem to seek advice from every place except from the Lord. We ask friends, family and sometimes total strangers.

When  we do seek guidance from the Lord we often look for the answer in some dramatic fashion. Sometimes it is best just to study His Word, pray and let Him speak to us in that still small voice. Most of the time when God wants to speak to my heart it is through His Word, and in that still small voice that comes when we are alone and we realize that He is there.

HE IS WITH US DURING TIMES OF PERSECUTION

John 16:33   These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

If your really strive to walk with Jesus it will cost you.

Following Jesus could cause you to lose some friends. When you no longer want to do the same old things you used to do many of your old friends might not want you around anymore.
If you try to witness to people and tell them about the difference Jesus has made in your life you might be ridiculed by some of them. If you are, don't worry, you are in good company. They mocked Jesus too.

We have lived for a long time in a country where there has been very little persecution of Christians. This is changing quickly. I am afraid if the current trends continue we will be seeing more and more persecution. There is comfort in knowing that Jesus will be with us every step of the way.

GOD IS WITH US IN TIME OF PRAYER

With our busy schedules we sometimes become too busy to talk or listen to others. We should never be too busy to talk to God in prayer. He is always there for us and He is never to busy to listen. Don't get too busy to talk to Him.

Sometimes we can be hard to reach. It is not so common for us to be out of reach today. Email, cell phones, text messages and all the new technology have made us more accessible than we used to be. God is never too far away and His line is never too busy.

One thing that brings me great comfort is that God is always concerned about what is going on in my life. Nothing is too big for Him to handle or too small for Him to care about. He is always there and He never rejects our call to Him.

GOD IS WITH US IN TIME OF SORROW AND SUFFERING

In my ministry l have dealt with people during times of sorrow and suffering. One thing I have noticed is the difference between those who know the Lord and those who do not. It seems that those who do not know the Lord are at a complete loss and have a terrible time handling tragedy and loss. On contrast those who know the Lord seem to find an inner strength to deal with the same type suffering and loss.

God is aware and concerned with all our problems. God is steadfast and never moves. It is up to us to maintain a close relationship with God so that we are aware of His presence during trials. He is always near, we just need to stay close enough to cling to him in our time of need.

God is with us at all times. He is with us at the time of salvation. He planned it. The plan of salvation as taught through the Bible is a perfect plan. It is perfect because it is God's plan. Man can try all he wants to change it but his efforts are futile. It is God's plan for man and it is the only plan we need.

God provided the way of salvation by sending his Son to pay our sin debt by dying in our place. He offers salvation to all men, free of charge and He  invites all men to come to Him through Jesus Christ. He calls men to Him by His Holy Spirit, convincing them of their sinful condition and need to be saved.

WHAT ARE YOU THINKING? 9

Proverbs 23:7 For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he:
Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

AS YOU THINK, SO ARE YOU

Some have said you are what you eat.  Actually the Bible tells us we are what we think.  There have been people who have survived terrible captivity and terrible tragedy simply because they were able to use their mind and their captors could never break into their thoughts.

We are pretty much what we think about.  That is why it is very important for us to control what goes into our minds and to filter out any bad stuff that goes into your mind.

Concentrate on the positive things.  Think good thoughts.  Think Godly thoughts and you will become a servant of God and it will show in your life.

WHAT ARE YOU THINKING? 8

STRENGTH AND PRAISE

If you think on the things in the above verse there will certainly be strength.  Negative thoughts will drain you, harm your health and rob you of your joy.

Positive thoughts will build you up, and will help you in your health and will add to your joy. The choice is actually yours to make.  You can take control of your mind and of your thoughts. It is not always easy, it is certainly not automatic, but it is something you can accomplish.

Keeping your mind filled with the thoughts above will also help you to Praise God for all His blessings because you will become more sensitive to His presence and more in tune with His will.
You will be more aware of the Greatness of God and of His love for you.

If your mind is filled with the love of Jesus..it is kind of hard for the negative to find it's way in.

WHAT ARE YOU THINKING? 7

THINK OF THINGS OF GOOD REPORT

Wouldn't you love to hear a news report where nothing bad happened.  No murders, robberies, scandals, protests, etc.  Just good news.  That would probably be a first.  It seems that the worst news gets the best ratings.  People seem to be drawn to the horrible things that happen in the world.

On the other hand don't you just love to see someone who has good news to share.  I enjoy it so much when people share their blessings with me.  (Not so much when they complain and share their drama.)  So often we have so many good things to think about but we let the problems take up too much of our mind.

Think on the things of good report.  Rejoice not only in your own blessings but in the blessings of others.  We should share in the joy with others who God has blessed.

There might be a world full of bad things going on out there.  We don't have to spend all our time thinking about them.  Look for the good stuff.  Think about the good stuff.  Share the good stuff with others.  You would be surprised at how much more people will enjoy being around you and listening to you if you are spreading around the good stuff.

WHAT ARE YOU THINKING? 6

THINK LOVELY THOUGHTS

We don't all have the talents of artists or poets but we do have the ability to think lovely thoughts.  Some people have the habit of always thinking the worst about everything.

One of the loveliest things I can think of is that Jesus saved me.  Jesus will never leave me or forsake me.  Jesus has gone to prepare a place for me.  Jesus is coming back to get me some day and I will be with Him forever.

Now that is a lovely thought that ought to leave no room for all the unlovely thoughts.
I truly enjoy life.  God has blessed me far more than I deserve and I look forward to each day and hope that God will use me to bless someone else. Since I have adopted this attitude He rarely disappoints me and I have received more blessings than I could ever count.  Now that is a lovely thought.

WHAT ARE YOU THINKING? 5

THINK PURE THOUGHTS

Wow..in this day and age that is a biggie.  We are constantly bombarded with impure thoughts from the media, from music, books, commercials and even when we are out in public.

We can to control a lot of what goes into our minds.  Just because the Networks show improper things on TV does not mean that we have to watch them.  Not only do we have a remote to change channels, it has an off switch.  Other than sports and "The Antiques Road Show" and a few of the old reruns there are not many things on TV that I want to watch.

It is sad to say, but I have had to block friends on Facebook because they use fowl language or post things that I don't feel are appropriate. I do have control over what goes into my mind.

You would not dream of letting someone come into your home and them throwing garbage all over your living room.  Don't let anyone put garbage in your mind either.

Whatsoever things are pure...think on these things.

WHAT ARE YOU THINKING? 4

THINK JUST THOUGHTS

So many times we think...that is just not fair. We ask the question, why me?
Instead of asking why me when we have bad things happen maybe we should ask why me when God blesses us too.  I sometimes listen to Dave Ramsey on the radio and when people ask him how he is he usually answers, "Better than I deserve."

Dave Ramsey thinks just thoughts.  The apostle Paul said that he had learned to be satisfied no matter what the conditions were.  That is a just thought.  We really don't need justice.  We need mercy and grace.  God freely gives us both and if we think just thoughts we will know that God is good in all situations.

Think on the goodness of a merciful God and your thought patterns will improve immensely.

Think on the fact that God is not only a just God but He is a merciful God.

Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

THINK HONEST THOUGHTS

We know that we are supposed to be honest with others.  We know it is wrong to lie and we shouldn't try to deceive others.  Why then, do we  sometimes lie to ourselves?  Sometimes we have sin in our lives but we don't want to admit it even to ourselves.

Sometimes we are angry about the way things are going in our lives but we don't want to admit it to ourselves or to God.  Here is a news flash for you.  God knows what you are thinking whether you admit it our not.  Why not be honest as you pray about the things in your life.

If you are a negative person admit you are a negative person...and then change your thinking.

If you are a bitter person...admit it and ask God to give you a forgiving spirit.

You can change your whole life if you just start being honest with yourself.

WHAT ARE YOU THINKING? 2

THINK ABOUT THE TRUTH

I learned many years ago that it is not what people don't know that is dangerous.  It is what they Know that just isn't so.  They have certain beliefs that are embedded into their minds that have no basis in reality.

In my ministry I have had several people who wanted to debate me about what I believe.  I refuse to get involved in arguments about religious beliefs because I know that many people believe lies that they are taught from their childhood so strongly that they accept them without question.

Jesus said, "I am the way, the Truth, and the Life."  I know that Jesus is my only hope and in Him I have salvation.  The Bible is the Word and I don't need additional books or literature to know the Truth.
If you want to know the truth, and you need to know the truth to think about the truth...you must pray and study with the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Many lies are being taught in the name of political correctness.  Some want us to be tolerant of certain things that the Bible teaches against.  We are to think on the Truth.  That comes from the Word of God.

WHAT ARE YOU THINKING? 1

Proverbs 23:7 For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he:
Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest,
whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Whether we want to admit it or not we are mostly made up of the things we really think about.  Sometimes I see people and I wonder, "What were you thinking when you did that to yourself?"
Actually in the case of some people I wonder if they were really thinking at all.  Especially with some of the piercings, tattoos, and hair styles that I see.

It is important to try to control our thoughts. We can't help what pops into our minds but we can control the thoughts that we dwell on.

I guess I am a dreamer and I have to be very careful not to let the dreams steer me completely away from reality.  The good part about that is that I keep my daydreams positive.  I have always said that worry is only negative fantasy.  That doesn't make much sense to me.

We can't keep wrong thoughts out of our head but we can drive them out.  We can fill them with better thoughts and that will not leave room for the bad thoughts.

I am going to be writing the next few devotionals on our thoughts.  I hope you get a blessing from them.

LET US REMEMBER 4

Psalms 33:12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.

Many in the past have been drafted into the Military to serve and to protect our great Nation. Today we have a different military. A military made up completely of volunteers, those who joined, knowing they could be placed in harms way. We have the best trained, best equipped, best qualified men, and yes women, serving in the Armed Forces that this or any other nation has ever known. Whether you agree with the Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan or not, these troops are worthy of our respect, our support, our gratitude and especially our prayers. This Nation will fight terrorists. Not because we chose to but because the nature of terrorists is to attack any Nation whose God is the Lord. We can fight them there or we can wait and fight them here. Right now that choice is ours. It might not always be.

While we remember the fallen, while we honor all those who have served to protect this Nation, let us not forget the ones who still serve and are still in harm's way.

THIS IS A GREAT NATION:
Because our God is the Lord.
When we forget that, or turn from that not only will be no longer be Great, we will be weak, and we will cease to be a great Nation.
