PART OF SOMETHING BIGGER

1 Corinthians 12:20 But now are they many members, yet but one body.

Sometimes we feel insignificant compared to others when involved in the Lord's work. I would advise you to go to the above scripture and read the previous scriptures along with it. I could have easily printed them in with this devotional but sometimes things mean a little more if you have to do a little searching to find them.
Some people feel like if they are not the preacher or they are not playing the piano or leading the singing that they will not be missed in the church services. We should feel that our presence is important and that we are a part of something much bigger than the individual parts, just like our hand is part of the body or our ear or our eyes. The task that we are doing may not depend at the time on a particular part of the body but it is certainly good to have them all present.
No preacher can preach his best sermon to an empty pew. No matter how much talent a song director has he can not lead empty pews to sing. We should have the attitude that our presence is important. When we are not there we are missed.
A little boy was away from home on vacation and the family was unable to go to church for some reason. Since they were not able to go to a regular church service they had devotionals in their motel room. The boy was asked to lead in prayer and he prayed, "Please, God, help my Sunday School teacher and class be able to get along alright without me this morning."
When you are not present in Sunday School and Church you may be missed more than you realize.

  1. After missing a couple of Sundays, I was in church this Sunday, and not only was I told that I was missed, but as always I got a lot out of the sermon, and felt soooo much better for being there. Amazing how easy it is to hit snooze, but the rewards of getting up and going are so great.
