MAKING UP YOUR MIND
Daniel 1:8 But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.
Daniel did that which was best for him because he purposed in his heart to do the right thing. In more modern terms he made up his mind to do the right thing. Sometimes the first step to a closer walk with God is just making up your mind to do it.
He didn't do it because it was expedient. It wasn't the easiest thing he could have done but sometimes the easiest thing is not the best. Most of the time the greatest rewards come from putting in more effort.
My wife and I are very seldom if ever late getting to church, or to anywhere else that we are supposed to be at a certain time. It takes some effort but we make up our minds to start on time and you would be surprised at the amount of stress that can be reduced from your life if you just decide to be on time. (The world will not wait on you.) It might be easier to be late for church or stay home altogether but you miss many blessings if you do.
Sometimes it is easier not to witness than to witness to someone but when we pass up an opportunity it may never come again. The blessing of telling someone about Jesus is one of the biggest blessings of being a Christian.
Sometimes it might seem easier to just sit still and stagnate instead of being an alive and vibrant member of the Lord's church. It might be easier but if you make up your mind to serve the Lord with all your effort you will not regret it.
